Portland, Maine

 We arrived in Portland, Maine in the late morning.  Parked the van on a side street and grabbed lunch.  We were both craving Mexican food, so we ventured into downtown Portland.  Bryan was taken back several times seeing the name Portland and thought we were home.  We split a huge burrito and chips and salsa.  Walked from there down to the waterfront.  It was hustling and bustling with tourists. The typical shops at a waterfront - restaurants, candy stores and cute boutiques.  We both were quite impressed with Portland.  

We were getting close to hitting  the Canada border and kind of forgot if we needed anything to bring the pets in.  Sure enough they both had to be current on their rabies vaccine.  I called our Vet clinic and Gus was current, Cheech wasn't. Bryan made an appt for the next day for Cheech to get his vaccine.  I had to call back to the clinic and asked for all their records.  We woke up in the morning and went to a local printer to have Gus’ certificate printed. Headed to PetCo and while Cheech was getting his shot, I made an appointment for Gus to get his nails trimmed. Bryan was talking to the vet who was prepping Cheech and she highly suggested we head to Acadia National Park. So happy we did this before we got to the border. Turns out all they asked if our pets were current on their vaccinations and didn’t need to see the paper work - UGH!


Bryan’s dad texted us and said he we would pay for a sunset sail on a Schooner if we were interested.. He had taken this sail when he was visiting Portland, Maine and enjoyed it.  I made reservations for 6:00pm. We snacked on a few items and walked back down to the waterfront to catch the sail.  It was amazing, so peaceful and beautiful. Cold as heck, but we came prepared with what I thought I would never wear and laughed a few times it would fall out of the cupboard - my stocking hat.  Came back to the van and ventured up to a spot with a view of the bay.  Once again, Overlander is spot on with overnight parking spots. We slept well and made our way to Acadia National Park in Maine.

Kingston, NB

After leaving Quebec we had planned on staying in Montreal the next night, but after driving into the city we weren’t feeling like we wanted to try and figure out another large city that wasn’t as cool as Quebec.  We headed southwest further to a smaller community named Kingston in New Brunswick.  We arrived on July 1st which is Canada Day, the same as our 4th of July.  The spot we found on Overlander had a nice bathroom, was right on Lake Ontario, and had a plug which I plugged our UPS battery and also the van into to bring up the charge since we decided to stay 2 nights.  We walked down to the park where the fireworks were going to be let off and first went to a place that was a $20 cover that included a drink with chips and salsa (Pace).  We sat down and waited to see if they could come up with a table for us to sit at.  After waiting for 20 minutes we changed venues to a place that wasn’t as crowded and didn’t have a cover charge.  It was a good fi...

Tavernier Florida - Florida Keys

 We made reservations at the Elks for 2 nights in Tavernier Fl. This was the most expensive Elks so far due to it being right on the beach.  When we arrived we met the host who help us get settled into our spot.  We couldn’t believe the view we had.  They had kayaks to rent, a big dock and a tiki hut. I couldn’t believe how many curly tailed lizards and iguanas were down here - ICK.  I did a pretty good job of getting over my fear of them because literally they were everywhere. That day Bryan took the paddle board out and I was too chicken and took a kayak out in the water.  We saw a nurse shark under the dock, manta ray, and several jelly fish. A couple came in a few hours later and they had a little girl (probably around 7) who soon became my new best friend.  She loved Gus and was super curious that we had a cat in the van. They had karaoke one night and of course I couldn’t resist and sang a couple songs.  Bryan came up with me for one duet. ...
