On our own

 We are now officially on our own after a couple family stops on the way.  After the stop in Bend we routed through Prineville and then to Painted Hills.  I had toured the area on Cycle Oregon last summer and wanted to show Paula how beautiful it is.  Definitely a gem that not many people seem to know about.  We hit Tiger Town Pub in Mitchell and had a great meal outside on their patio.  We then headed towards Ontario Oregon on hwy 26 to stay with Darcey (Paula’s sister) and John on their 500+ acre farm.  Cheech and Gus were welcomed into their home which allowed us to sleep in a bed which will be a very rare occurrence moving forward.  I enjoyed touring the property and seeing all the equipment needed for the farming operation.  

From Ontario we headed out en route to Provo Utah Elks.  We stopped in Twin Falls to have lunch and take in Snoshone Falls which were on the Snake River and quite impressive.  Used our little toaster oven to make a tuna melt and it worked great running off our on board lithium battery. Lots of mountains, some sun, a little lightening, and a couple heavy hail storms were part of the drive.  Fueled up in Tremerton where the diesel was $3.89 or about a dollar cheaper a gallon than in Oregon. Carpool lane helped us scoot through Salt Lake City with only a minor slowdown at one point for an accident.  We pulled into the Elks lodge at around 5:30 where there was one of the 5 RV spots left with hook ups which was nice because the lows were projected to be in the 30’s.  We have a little space heater that requires a plug in.  Went to check in and the first 2 beers are free and the RV spot was $20.  $29 all in with 2 beers ea/ RV hookup and a $5 tip all with a beautiful backdrop of Mountain View’s.  Got up and are currently heading to Moab where we ran into pass temperatures of 28 degrees and snow that thankfully wasn’t sticking to the road.
