Moab
Finally figured out how to add photos to blog. We arrived in Moab around lunchtime and ate at the Trailhead Public house which was good. We then went on a 4.5 mile hike to a natural bridge. There were many river crossings, but we were able to cross on rocks and didn’t fall in once. This was a very cool hike and as we approached the natural bridge a hail storm struck. Shortly after, the sun returned to dry everything. We met 3 nice people at the natural bridge who were on an annual trip from Colorado. That night we just boondocked in an overflow parking lot of a hotel that had a decent view and was away from the road.
The next day I rented a mountain bike and took a 10 mile ride that was pretty extreme and unlike any ride I have ever done. After picking up the bike and starting to drive up to where the trailhead started we came upon a campground right on the Colorado and since it was around 10:30 the previous nights guests were packing up to leave. We snagged a spot and then off I went to mountain bike. The scenery was epic, and the trail was very technical. I can’t even count how many times I got off my bike to walk up parts that I was unable or a little too timid to tackle. The trails were rated black diamond and double black diamond. Again, there were very few people on the trail. I was super stoked after the ride and was able to ride back to our campsite where Paula had gone shopping and made Colorado River Quesadillas. A guy from Wisconsin showed up in his Sprinter, but all the spots were taken so we offered to share our spot with him. Our neighbor was in a conversion Dodge van and she had also shared her spot with someone who didn’t have one. All of us in the 4 vans enjoyed a fire at the neighbors and had a nice conversation. The guy staying in our site was heading out to do a 3-4 day supported tour on his mtn bike on the White Rim Trail.
The following day, we had arranged a 3.5 hour tour driving a side by side atv on the slick rock. This was a lot of fun and a bit scary. It was amazing how steep the ATV’s could drive up and down, the suspension was amazing and the tour guide was a character. Alivia had done the same tour on her drive back to TCU and recommended it to us. We were happy she did.
